Profil du parti

Carlton Darby

Chef

Personal information may be sold or shared under certain circumstances, primarily involving data collection and usage by political parties, organizations, or third-party data brokers.

Here are some key situations where this might occur:

     1. Political Campaigns: During election periods, political parties often collect personal data from supporters and potential voters. This information can include names, addresses, voting history, and demographic details. If individuals consent to share their information, parties may sell or share this data with campaign partners, especially for targeted advertising or outreach efforts.

     2. Data Brokers: Third-party companies, known as data brokers, collect personal information from various sources, including public records, social media, and online activity. Political entities might purchase data from these brokers to enhance their voter outreach strategies. This data often includes detailed profiles that help campaigns identify potential supporters and tailor their messages.

     3. Consent and Opt-In Policies: In Canada, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) regulates how organizations can collect, use, and disclose personal information. If individuals provide explicit consent for their data to be used for specific purposes, such as fundraising or campaigning, this information can be sold or shared according to the terms agreed upon.

     4. Voter Registration Databases: Certain personal information may be available through voter registration databases maintained by Elections Canada or provincial election agencies. While this information is typically used for electoral purposes, it can sometimes be accessed by political parties for campaign efforts. However, stringent regulations apply to protect the privacy of voters.

     5. Research and Analysis: Political organizations may also share or sell personal data for research purposes. This can include analyzing voting trends, preferences, and behaviors to improve campaign strategies. However, such activities must comply with privacy laws and require consent from the individuals involved.

The United Progressive Party of Canada understands the importance of being aware of how personal information is collected and used in Canadian politics. We also encourage members to remain informed about their rights regarding privacy and data usage to effectively protect their personal information.
